Why this is free
Tldr; writing a letter to your future self is free here, and it's staying that way. No ads. No trial that expires. No "upgrade to actually use it." All because I need something like this for myself and my friends.
Longer version, because you probably want to know the catch:
I left a comfortable corporate job to take a much needed break and to build things I have always wanted to build for myself. This is one of them. It costs me almost nothing to run, so it costs you nothing to use.
I used to use futureme.org but it got acquired and quietly enshittified. I understand their need to pay the bills and am forever grateful for the letters they delivered, but it is a simple utility with a good experience.
I am doing this for two reasons:
- Just feel good that I have built something useful
- To build a community of people like my friends — curious, kind and like to build cool things.
But if you are one of the few great kind souls of this planet, there are a few ways you can help out:
- Report any and all bugs that you face inside the discord
- Just a public shoutout on reddit or x (I have been trying to start a community there as well) really helps with the morale
